This winch is essentially the same as all the other Chinese made winches, and identical to the Smittybilt (and probably many others). I was pleased with the packaging and the appearance of the winch when it arrived, I was however disappointed with the quality of the solenoid and control box.The control box was VERY flimsy plastic that did not maintain a perfectly square shape when installed. I also found the winch control plug to be in an inconvenient spot if you have a Jeep with an "overrider" hoop on the bumper. I had to relocate the mounting position of the plug. I also felt that the control box offered no protection from the elements as it has large openings on the bottom and spaces along the edge of the box due to the mishaped plastic. My final issue, which may very well have been isolated, was the fact that my solenoid did not function properly. The power out function did not work which would have made long distance recoveries a pain.I ended up returning the winch to Amazon and found their return process to be a breeze. I was given no hassle about returning a dirty product (it had been installed a night previoud to an offroad trip) and I had the funds back in my account in less than 2 days. I don't think there is a better value for a winch with a synthetic line (right now they are $410) and I may actually consider purchasing another one.

I have installed about 15 winches over the years and this winch takes the cake for being a jerry rigged, thrown in the box, and sold POS. Its like they took parts from different winches and if they looked like they would fit they threw it in the box and sold it. Then after all the trouble to make things fit the winch doesn't work. This is going back, and Rugged Ridge imported junk is off my Jeeps forever.

I chose this winch for the price with synthetic line option. I got the 10500 lb for under 500 bucks. I also got the stubby bumper by rugged ridge for a 2009 jeep unlimited. I gave the bumper a 1 star (you can read that review on Amazon also). The winch has a few issues, 1) the solenoid is not sealed, not even close underneath of it too being sealed. 2) the mounting hardware for the solenoid is poorly designed. 3) I dont like the location of the plug for the operation of the winch, and it is a little difficult to spin into the 'on' position with the configuration of the bumper I have. Now, for the positives, 1) price, price, price: 500-1000 less than comparable warn models. 2) Installation was easy, and I did not have any issues installing the winch itself. 3) Asthetically pleasing. 4) worked fine right out of the box, and winches at a decent pace for the money. This winch will not win too many races for speed, but if you need a winch in a pinch, I am quite confident it will pull me out of anything I encounter. I would recommend this winch to anyone, and recommend also getting a cover for it because I have been worned of synthetic line wearing out prematurely from UV light (although I dont know it that is true or not, why risk it for a $20 cover). Stay away from the stubby bumper though!! It was a nightmare installing it, and included angle grinders and re-drilling my frame mounts because the Chinese made factory holes did not line up!Happy 4-wheeling all.
