The medallion is a cheap plastic although it does look nice from a distance. It is very light weight and probably not worth the money unless you just want a nice look and not high quality. Also, the canopy for the chandelier we were hanging from the medallion did not fit in the whole of the center of the medallion - we ended up having to put the canopy piece on upside down in order to use the medallion. So - even though the medallion is cheap plastic and we had a problem with the center whole not being cut the right size, it does look very nice.
